I don't know much about this black and white packaging other than I liked it visually and it jumped out more than anything else in the market. As a lover of black and white design and design in general, this was a relief to see!

This is an old photo from a demo in Shimerville, PA around 2001. This shot
ran in Ride UK in the news section and unfortunately I never got the
negative back, so I'm left with this relatively poor scan. But I always
liked this shot, blown out ceiling light and all. And the "Peacock" is just
one of the best tricks ever done on a BMX bike -- a no-footed one-handed peg
grab as only Mat can. One thing to note, Mat is riding Skyway Tuff wheels in that photo.
